My Ultimate Green Smoothie

What better way to start off your day than with the ultimate green smoothie. In fact, this doesn't just have to be for breakfast, it's perfect for an on-the-go pick me up or pre/post workout boost. As well as this, it tastes pretty amazing and not like those marsh water like vegetable concoctions you find at the supermarket. It's creamy, refreshing and it actually fills you up! This recipe is also super adaptable using whatever's in your fridge/freezer/cupboard so don't worry if you don't have all the ingredients, as you can still make this smoothie right away! 
Now for a quick science lesson about the benefits of all the ingredients in our ultimate green smoothie - if you're not fussed then you can move straight ahead to the recipe. Spinach is a very nutrient-dense food which mean it is low in calories, yet still very high in vitamins and minerals. Bananas are high in potassium which is great for heart health and they're also really filling so bulk up a smoothie nicely. Green apples are a good source of dietary fibre and help boost metabolism. Pears add natural sweetness to the smoothie but are also low in calories so promote weight loss. Almonds contain lots of good fats, fibre and protein and are one of the healthiest varieties of nut. All of that in one smoothie. You can thank me later.

How to make it:

Now, for most, this would be the first hurdle - having the right ingredients. As I said before this is incredibly easily to adjust, no matter what ingredients you have lying around your kitchen.
  • 1 cup of spinach
  • ½ cup of milk (I used coconut milk but you can use any milk of choice)
  • 2 heaped tablespoons of yoghurt
  • 1 small frozen banana (freezing the banana is pretty essential to the creamy consistency of this smoothie but if you can't wait then just chuck in a couple of ice cubes)
  • 1 pear and 1 small green apple (keeping on the skins is even better!)
  • A handful of almonds

Possible alterations - any flavour of yoghurt, 1/4 avocado instead of apple/pear, cashews instead of almonds.


Simply blend all the ingredients until you have a thick and creamy smoothie and pour into a glass. Garnish with some mint and a pinstripe paper straw if you're feeling fancy! Enjoy!

18 Foodie Facts About Me

I'm starting off with a post which tells you a little more about me: 

Sweet or savoury?
It's a no-brainer for me. I have 30 sweet-tooths (two teeth extractions).

Something you want to improve?
My lack of reading. It's even a challenge for me to get through compulsory school books and that needs to change. But will someone tell my teacher I'm actually great at reading cookery books?

Most used kitchen gadget?
It's got to be my trusty Kitchen Aid.

Favourite chefs/bakers?
Jamie Oliver's a classic. I also love Lorraine Pascale and Paul Hollywood.

Hobbies?
Cooking. And, baking. Basically anything to do with FOOD.   

Favourite street food?
Crispy battered fish with salt/vinegar chips. And, frozen yogurt with brownie bits and freeze-dried raspberries. YUM.

Tea or Coffee?
Can I say sparkling flavoured fruit water? I'm not really a fan of hot drinks.

Favourite Cereal?
Curiously cinnamon (aka cinnamon toast crunch).

Going out or staying in?
Staying in. Home-cooked is always better, so I'm not being anti-social.

Favourite season?
I reckon summer. You can't beat BBQs in the sunshine with iced drinks and proper homemade burgers. Gosh, I'm literally salivating.

Food Pet Peeve?
People who say they don't like chocolate - it's a lie. And those people who say that they are full after eating a lettuce leaf. That's an even bigger lie.

Best cuisine?
Currently, I'm loving Japanese, with sushi and teriyaki & sashimi.

Weirdest food you've eaten?
Probably snails. Oh, and chicken stomach bags. 

Go-to snack?
Yogurt bark or frozen grapes.Favourite holiday destination?Canada. The food's pretty amazing there.

Last meal you ate?
Okay - don't judge. It was a green smoothie. You have to make yourself feel better over your lack of self-control when it comes to the good stuff, you know? 

Favourite TV Shows?
Great British Bake Off and Masterchef. 

Newest foodie revelation?
Cinnamon roll made in a mug (a post's definitely on its way).

Welcome

I've so excited to launch my new blog based entirely around my biggest passion: FOOD. What better way to share my favourite cookbooks, newest discoveries and all-round tasty foodstuffs! We've all had that decadent gooey chocolate cake, comfortingly warm soup or perhaps its just your everyday morning coffee which takes us to a new place - that's what my blog's all about - finding our own little nuggets of cloud nine.
